Jaeger-LeCoultre and La Mostra Film Festival
Sep 04, 2007
Since 2004, Jaeger-LeCoultre has maintained successful partnership with la Biennale di Venezia. 2007 has marked the 64th international film festival, famous among aficionados as 'La Mostra'. La Mostra is appreciated worldwide as one of the most prestigious film festivals in the world.
The first edition of La Mostra was organized 75 years ago, having immediately established the prestigious reputation due to its innovative and independent spirit, respectful attitude towards tradition and striving for artistic quality. The same values are shared by the Jaeger-LeCoultre watchmaking company.
As a part of the partnership with the Venice International Film Festival, Jaeger-LeCoultre has decided to offer its support to the Fondazione La Biennale di Venezia, implying the preservation and restoration of motion pictures of great cultural significance.
In 2007, to pay tribute to the La Mostra 75th anniversary celebration, the Fondazione La Biennale di Venezi has managed to restore the highly praised 1932 Italian movie called 'Gli uomini che mascalzoni.' The movie became one of the highlights of the first Venice International Film Festival ever held. It was screened on August 11, 1932.
As an original and useful way to raise funds for restorations to be made by the Fondazione in future, the Jaeger-LeCoultre watch-making company has developed its iconic Reverso watches in a limited edition. The noteworthy peculiarity of the timepieces is the fact that they are autographed by leading personalities from the world of motion pictures. On the list of the stars who left their signatures on the Reverso at the 2006 Venice International Film Festival you will find such internationally famous stars as Valentino Rossi, Oliver Stone, Sergio Castellito, Charlotte Gainsbourg, Catherine Deneuve, and Josh Hartnett.
The Jaeger-LeCoultre celebrity-signed collectors' watches from 2006 were presented at the auction organized on the eve of the 2007 La Mostra festival. The Biennale di Venezia organized a special event hosted by most renowned and prestigious watch auctioneers, Antiquorum. All the proceeds from this auction were streamed to the 'Fund for Cinema'.
